Why I don't go to Church 01/22/2012
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing (Hebrews 10:25) Quite often I hear people give me reasons as to why they don’t go to church. Some Christians have no choice. They are trapped in a hospital bed, or working in an isolated area where no church exists. God is certainly sufficient to care for their needs. You can still get to heaven if you can't go to church. But I am concerned when people don’t want to go to Church but yet claim to be Christians. Acts 20:7 reveals the practice of the early church: "And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached to them." For Christians in every location, regular gathering was a part of life. When we became a Christian, we were called into a relationship with God (1 Corinthians 1:9). But God also wants us to have another type of relationship. I John 1:3 makes it clear that we must also get into a relationship with other Christians. Recently I hear people say they don’t go to church since they get all the teachings on the internet. This is very dangerous. This is like telling my kids that they don’t have to go to school but they can get all their teaching on the internet. While the internet can be a tool, we expect our children to learn from their teachers or their parents if home-schooled. The same applies to us. We need to be in relationship with real people and not just a virtual person on the internet or the TV. In an age that is forgetting God, make a decision to hold on to the things of God.
